The Open Championship and
The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews

The Client

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews holds a unique position in golf. Established in 1754, it evolved through two and a half centuries as a leading authority in the world game. The Club holds responsibility for the administration of the Rules of Golf, the running of The Open Championship, which is the world's oldest golf championship, and other key events, and the development of the game in existing and emerging golfing nations.

The Project

StudioCinna designed The Open Championship and The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews Web sites and holds the design authorship of the majority of the Web site by creating the major design elements and the navigational system, frames for imagery to dynamically update within, design for all popup windows, and devices for the live Web cam, TV streams and the desktop Java applet. StudioCinna also created the design of the interactive flyover, map section and leaderboards, established the design of the page templates, which the text and images flowed into dynamically during the live events of The Open Championship and successfully achieved the aim of an Internet agency which approached StudioCinna for the project.

By teaming with the Internet agency's creative director, who held previous meetings with the client, StudioCinna was able to understand the needs and concerns of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews for both of their Web sites. After briefing and also meeting with the client, StudioCinna developed the Web site from a presentational rough, designing and developing an online brand appearance that established the 'look and feel' of the Web sites and the first online presence for The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews and The Open Championship.

StudioCinna created the design concepts for client presentation and established the online brand personality, designed the navigational interface, core site elements and established the design of device, interactive and page templates, while teaming with the site programmers; which successfully enabled the Internet Agency to provide The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews with Web sites that reflect the brand image with a professional presence, easily allowed for expansion and development, and dynamically was astir for four and a half years with driven activity during each live event of The Open Championship.

Client Feedback

"Thanks for all the hard work and beautiful design that was created for the Open. It looks great. Apparently we are having great feedback for the design. Haven't heard anything on the programming side yet, (joke)."

— Creative Director, Internet Agency

Testimonials

"Wow. This site is absolutely phenomenal, the balance, color scheme, metaphors, etc. I'm the lead web designer at FasTV.com, and we're featuring British Open video this year on our site. What a pleasure to be associated with such a well-planned, utterly beautiful production. Keep up the great work!"

— Lead Web Designer, FasTV.com
