TecCapital Investments Ltd.

The Client

TecCapital Investments Ltd. is a Bermuda-based venture capital vehicle whose ultimate controlling company is Oakpoint Holdings, registered in the British Virgin Islands and controlled by Sir David and Sir Frederick Barclay. TecCapital was formed as a vehicle, which could make investments in new wireless communication businesses. Since its inception, TecCapital has invested in a number of mobile Internet related companies, including room33 and MonsterMob.

The Project

The design agency, StudioCinna, is the author of the TecCapital intranet and extranet design solutions, which successfully achieve the project's aim by reflecting the brand image with dynamic, contemporary, non-conservative, professional design and provides TecCapital with a distinctive brand image, welcoming its members to an environment that supports usability guidelines, accommodates a content management system (CMS) and allows for future expansion.

Entering the project during the strategic phase, StudioCinna created a series of iterative design trials, exploring concepts, solutions and design directions, which established the big picture, set the design language — which enables all the visual elements to work together harmoniously — and successfully communicated creative ideas back to the client.

Drawing from nearly two decades of professional experience gained from working on global Fortune 500 accounts for the major advertising agencies in the USA and Europe and adapting these same valuable skills toward pitching and developing Web sites since the inception of the Web, StudioCinna was able to offer advice and deliver innovative solutions — to an Internet agency, which assumed the role of intermediary during the design phase of the project.

StudioCinna's online solution included the design and development of the page templates for the intranet site and the password protected extranet site and the design of navigational system. The CMS template designs for the two sites entail the considered design and layout of pages to easily accommodate for the frequent updates of information and are comprised of the intranet home page and the extranet entry page, seven section fronts and the company overview, investment aims, CEO statement, management structure and advisory board, biographies, portfolio of investments, strategic relationships and web site links, the company newsroom and searchable archive section (entry, list, and article pages) and a separate wireless industry newsroom and archive section, Q&A pages, human resources, terms and conditions screens and the design and format of the forms, registration, password and confirmation screens within the database systems.

The Results

StudioCinna delivered on time and within budget the series of page templates for the entire intranet and extranet design solution — adhering to the accessibility and usability W3C standards — which established the boilerplate formula for the sites to be published through a content management system database and easily accommodate future expansion.

The intranet and extranet design solution and Flash interactives, authored and creative directed by StudioCinna, demonstrates a consistent design language throughout, establishes an impressive online brand presence and successfully achieves the client's aims by delivering a high-end design solution which effectively communicates TecCapital Investments internal and external corporate vision to its select workgroups.

Intranet and Extranet Explained

An intranet is a private network that is contained within an enterprise and in general looks like a private version of the Internet and is accessible to the enterprise members only. The main purpose of an intranet is to share company information and computing resources among employees and can also be used to facilitate working in groups and for teleconferences.

When part of an intranet is made securely accessible and shares part of a business's information or operations with customers, partners, suppliers, or others outside the company, that part becomes part of an extranet.

Companies can use an extranet to exchange large volumes of data using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), share product catalogs exclusively with wholesalers or those "in the trade", collaborate with other companies on joint development efforts, jointly develop and use training programs with other companies, provide or access services provided by one company to a group of other companies, share news of common interest exclusively with partner companies and has been described as a "state of mind" in which the Internet is perceived as a way to do business with other companies as well as to sell products to customers.
